Does the world need a Windows smartwatch?

On Monday, Microsoft announced that a Windows-based smartwatch is on the horizon. My initial reaction was: Seriously? After all, efforts to squeeze Windows into a small device in the past have failed. True, some products, such as Nokia smartphones based on the Windows Mobile OS, have received good reviews. But no one bought them. Windows Phones had a 0.3 percent market share in Q4 2016, according to Gartner.Microsoft even made a smartwatch more than a decade ago. In 2004, MSN Watch, which enabled you to check email, weather and news, was a pet project of Bill Gates. Today, it’s among several products on a list of Microsoft products “that failed or were abandoned.”To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

4 apps to share iOS, Android and Windows files

As a child-free, married couple in our late 20s, when my husband and I aren’t asking the other what we should have for dinner, we’re sharing videos and pictures of our 5-year-old tuxedo cat. But when my husband moved to Android — and left the iMessage cult — we found that sharing multiple images and videos isn’t easy. And because waiting for Apple to open up iMessage to other platforms feels like a “when pigs fly” situation, I took to the App Store to find an easy way to share gigabyte upon gigabyte of high-resolution cat footage. Typical email accounts such as Gmail and cloud storage sites as like DropBox or OneDrive have limits on what file sizes you can share and storage capacity. That’s especially true if you just want a free account. Even in the enterprise, it’s not uncommon to find your company has a filter on the file-size of outgoing attachments. But your email account, third-party messaging apps and cloud storage aren’t your only options to share large or multiple files. In

AMD: Sorry, there will be no official Ryzen drivers for Windows 7

AMD won’t be providing Windows 7 drivers for its upcoming Ryzen processors, the company said, contradicting recent reports that indicated AMD would support Microsoft’s older operating system. AMD confirmed that it has tested and validated Ryzen on Windows 7, but that it won’t officially support the OS. It puts to rest the suggestion of a recent translated report from Computerbase that AMD would reverse its stance and ship Windows 7 drivers for Ryzen. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
