Physician: GoToMeeting with HDFaces transforms healthcare delivery

Dr. Andrew Barbash delivered the keynote at the March 2012 Medical Entrepreneur Symposium, where he spoke on virtual healthcare and on the tools and methods used to advance clinical practice. Barbash is a fan of GoToMeeting with HDFaces, and says that simple online meeting and video conferencing technologies can make physicians more efficient and productive.

“Using GoToMeeting with HDFaces in as many ways as you could possibly imagine is how I use it. It is easy, practical and feasible to interact with anybody in any setting,” says Barbash, a neurologist. “Instead of looking at online collaboration with patients, families, staff and other colleagues as, quote, ‘telemedicine,’ I think we should look at it as something we should be doing tens of times a day. Virtual medicine should not be a fallback when you canít have somebody there with you. In many ways, it should become the first way we actually interact with each other before we ask people to get in their cars and drive places, to waste gasoline and parking.”

Microsoft Lync Webinar- 2-14-2012 – Unify Your Internal Communication & Collaboration – pt2

Synopsis: Beringer Associates hosted Microsoft Lync Webinar from 02-14-2012 – This Webinar will demonstrate the features and benefits of Microsoft Lync and its’ use as a collaboration tool. For our company it has revolutionized our communication. Every employee has the ability to call, instant message, video chat, and know the real-time status of another employee at any given moment.

Detail:

Lync by Microsoft is a unified communications tool. Unified communications is the next evolution to the way people communicate.

Think about the wasted time and inefficiencies today trying to track one of your employees down… You may send an email, if there is no response you may call their office line, no answer so you call their cell, then you pull up their Outlook calendar and realize they are scheduled to be in a meeting with a customer. Microsoft Lync gives you a single interface for communication and collaboration.

Microsoft Lync, formerly known as Office Communicator has been available since 2007. The current version (2010) is available for Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android based devices allowing full mobility.

Lync offers:
• Instant Messaging and Group Chat
• Voice over IP (VoIP)
• Enterprise voice integration (integrate Lync with your office phone system)
• Video Conferencing Desktop sharing for presentations and collaboration

Lync is fully integrated with Outlook for presence information and meeting scheduling. Presence information shows you a persons current availability based on their schedule in Outlook so you know at a glance if someone is free, busy or out of the office before trying to reach them. It also let’s you create a meeting request with the Lync meeting URL and dial in number embedded automatically.

Built-in Voice over IP allows you to make calls through Lync using your PC’s microphone and speakers (or a headset) and the quality is quite remarkable. VoIP also eliminates any toll charges. If you have a webcam you can add video conferencing. When multiple people are on the session the software automatically zooms to the person speaking.

Instant message conversations are saved in Outlook as a conversation for archival purposes. If you miss a request for an instant message session or a audio/video call the system automatically emails you to alert you of the missed request.

Many applications are integrated with Lync including Microsoft CRM and the other Office applications (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). It will show you presence information and document status, if someone is editing a document for example.

Lync is available in two deployment models, on premise and online via Microsoft Office 365. The on premise model requires servers and software installation/configuration where Office 365 is a fully hosted (cloud based) solution and you only need to install the client software on users PC’s. Office 365 also offers hosted or cloud based versions of Exchange Server, SharePoint, and even Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Office 365 starts at $6 per user per month.

The next major iteration of Lync will include business telephone capabilities replacing traditional PBX based telephone systems with software based VoIP functionality. There are already desk phones available for Lync along with headsets and conference room phones.
